The purposes of this study were to analyze the factors predicted first-time suicide ideation of young and middle-aged adults and compare non-poor group and poor group. For these goals, we applied survival table analysis and discrete-time survival analysis to the Korea Welfare Panel Study. Adults(20-59 years old) without suicide ideation of the KWPS were analyzed to the determine the factors on first-time suicide ideation by wave 7 to 11. The results of the study were as follows. Firstly, the survival rate of first-time suicide ideation of adult for 5 years was 92%. The non-poor group had a 95% survival rate, while the poor group had a significantly lower survival rate of 84%. At each time point, the risk probability of the poor group was about three times higher than that of the non-poor group. Secondly, depression, education, spouse violence, alcohol use, and family relationship satisfaction were significant determinants of first-time suicide ideation of adult. Finally, depression, education, spouse violence, and family relationship satisfaction were significant determinants of first-time suicide ideation of adult in non-poor group. For poor groups, depression, disability, chronic disease, and age were significant determinants of first-time suicide ideation of adult. Based on the results of this study, we discussed prevention of suicidal ideation of young and middle-aged adults and improvement of mental health of the poor.
